To get the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE):

The latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP is distributed as part of Windows SP2 (see next section below) and is called "Internet Explorer 6 SP2".

The latest version of Internet Explorer for versions of Windows other than XP (including Windows 2000, NT and 9x) is IE6 SP1 which can be downloded from here:

To get the latest Windows Service Packs:

The latest version the Sun Java 2 Platform is version 1.5. The Sun Java 2 Platform replaces the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine which used to be shipped with Windows and Internet Explorer; this product was withdrawn in late 2004.
